Amber Fort

‘Amber Fort’ usually pronounced as ‘Amer Fort’ is an important sightseeing in Jaipur, located at a distance of about 11 kms from the city. It is also one of the favorites among the guests of Alluring India. Amer was known as Dhundar (symbolizing a sacrificial mount in the western frontiers) in the medieval period and was ruled by the Kachwahas from the 11th century onwards, till the capital was moved from Amer to Jaipur. Amber was historically part of the Meena clan, who had built a fort at this very site until the king ‘Raja Man Singh’, commander in Chief of Akbar’s army, built over the fort of the Meenas. Constructed by Raja Man Singh I in 1592 and completed by Sawai Jai Singh I, the Amer fort is a beautiful fusion of art and architecture. While the interior walls depict expressive painting scenes with carvings, precious stones and mirror settings, the breathtaking Maota Lake in the foreground adorns the grand structure. The mirror image of the Fort, on the still waters of the lake, seem to be a beautiful illusion enhancing the gorgeous structure built in white marble and red sandstone. The sightseeing at Jaipur is incomplete without a visit to this famous fort.
