What to See
The Himalayan Railway is a UNESCO world heritage site. A toy train joy ride is one of the experiences, that most guests enjoy while visiting Darjeeling. The tea estates are another popular sight here and one must visit a tea estate along with a tea processing factory to observe the entire process of tea-making from the freshly plucked tea leaves at the tea gardens and plantations.
Tiger Hills are the spot for witnessing a phenomenal sunrise over the Kanchenjunga ranges in the Himalayas. Kanchenjunga are the second tallest range in the gigantic Himalayas.
One can visit the Himalayan mountaineering institute and the Batasia loop narrow gauge point for the toy train. It is located near the Ghoom monastery which is another important sight in Darjeeling.
Best Time to visit
The best months to visit Darjeelingare the months of April to May and October or November. Being a hill station, Darjeeling remains cold for most of the year. Monsoons are not recommended to travel to Darjeeling as the roads are narrow and rains restrict movement in the city. Traffic can sometimes be clogged for hours at a stretch.
