Pokhra is the 2nd largest city in Nepal. The city is considered even more a mystical place than Kathmandu. Pokhra is mainly known for adventure tourism as it is the base for the famous Annapurna Circuit trek. Besides Kathmandu, this is the most visited destination and popular because of its Phewa lake. The lake offers some beautiful scenery and great photography opportunities.
What to See
This city boasts of its stunning panoramic views of Himalayan peaks, several beautiful lakes and also is a home to hindu& Buddhist temples, and church. There are many temples like Bhadrakali, Bindhyabasini, Guheshwori, Sitaldevi, Talbarahi, Barahi temple, Gita mandir temple and Bhimsen temple that were built during medieval period.
The city has two major viewpoints from where one can see the entire panoramic city - one is World Peace Pagoda and the other one is Sarangkot. Pokhra also houses an International Mountain Museum. The other museums are Pokhara Regional Museum - an ethnographic museum; Annapurna Natural History Museum which has specimens of flora and fauna and contains extensive collection of the butterflies; and the Gurkha Museum which features history of the Gurkha soldiers.
Best Time to visit
The best months to visit Pokhra are during the months of September and November, which also happen to the peak tourist season here. For trekkers, the months of September to December proves to be a good time with clear skies and good views of the mountain ranges. Months of June to September are not advised to travel due to the rains.
