Munnar is one of the most popular hill station in India. At a height of 6000 ft., Munnar is a retreat for picturesque beauty, peace and harmony with a wide stretch of tea plantations. This destination was once the summer resort of the erstwhile British Government in South India and hence it was declared as the summer capital of the British.
There are no big multi-national brand of hotels in Munnar as one cannot make high rise properties in a hill station. However, there are some good boutique hotels that are located amidst the plush green mountains which makes the stay in Munnar a worthwhile experience.

The main attraction of Munnar is the huge expanse of tea plantations& to showcase some of the exquisite factors on the growth of tea plantations, a tea museum was opened by Tata Tea in Munnar. This museum carries a collection of photographs and machineries, each depicting a story about the origins and growth of tea plantations in Munnar. Most of the plantations in Munnarare taken over by the Tata Group and today they are the largest integrated tea company in the world.Munnar is one of the biggest tea traders in India. Not far from the town of Munnar, there is a place called Mattupetty which is known for its storage concrete dam and a beautiful lake where one can enjoy boat rides along with the scenery of hills. Another major tourist attraction of Munnar is Pothamedu. It is a view point at a hill top from where one can enjoy amazing views of the mist-clad mountains and valleys. Situated at at a height of 1700 m above sea level, is the Top Station which is the highest point and also offers a panoramic view of its neighboring state of Tamil Nadu. Apart from these attractions, Munnar is also home to Eravikulam National Park which houses the highest peak in south India - AnamudiPeak, that stands at a height of over 2700 mtres.
Best Time to visit
The best time to visit Munnar is from October to May. Being a hill station, domestic tourists flock here between April to July. Even though monsoons make the hill station lush green and a beautiful sight, it is not advisable to drive up the narrow hills. The roads become wet and are often covered with dense fog reducing the visibility to minimum. However, by end of September, once the rain fall decreases, one can visit this hill station and also enjoy the greenery after the rains.
